Poznań

Poznań was the first Polish city I visited to discover its public transport. The 1435 tram system offers a wide range of tram types from old German DÜWAG via classical Konstal 105Na to brand new Moderus Gamma. Latter had not been introduced when I was staying there, hence I do not have any photos of them yet.

My first journey led me to the terminus called Miłostowo. Of course I had chosen a Konstal, albeit a refurbished one. Along with the Konstal trams on route 6 route 8 was operating with DÜWAG trams. Not far away from the terminus there is a famous cemetary. Having never been to Poznań before, I was discovering the network by simply taking Konstal trams wherever they were going to. The Franowo branch of tram 16 offered a good opportunity to take nice photos of nice trams. I also like these kind of Solaris trams. I have seen ugly ones but the round shape of the one in the photo looks aesthetic to me albeit I have not been told how it feels to drive them. At last I arrived at what I was heading for: a double classical old Konstal 105Na. Regularly traveling by good old Tatra trams, I had not been taken much effort when I fell in love with the Konstal. These trams have everything you need except for low-floor entry: They have a tram sound, openable windows, no tonsillitis causing air conditioning and a perceptibly swinging body. The photo was taken opposite the place of the previous photo. Another double Konstal unit came across my lens a bit nearer to terminus Franowo. Later on I traveled on tram 11 to its terminus where I found a green-yellow theme perfectly fitting to the green-yellow Konstal unit. In the city centre I saw heritage unit Konstal N 602+456+436 on heritage line 0. Meanwhile it got quite cloudy but there was no heavy rain. If you take tram photos in Poznań, do not forget to go to terminus Piątkowska, which is worth a visit due to its foresty environment. There are many pretty women in Poland, as among tram drivers. This picture shows Moderus Beta MF22AC BD 912 at terminus Połabska. Unfortunately the frequency of the indicator is quite low, hence you cannot see that it was a tram 10 vehicle. Feeling quite tired, I dod not feel like continuing at all but for the ake of completeness I traveled to northern terminus Os. Sobieskiego. I did not regret my decision because the Sobieskiego branch turned out to be the high speed line of Poznań. Not only do the trams run at a higher speed but the spatial terminus is photogenic as well. I took a photo of trams 14 and 15 at the same location with the same tram type. On the other side I saw a Solaris Tramino of tram 16 coming to take a photo of it. Somehow this motif was inspiring me. I told you. Ogrody was the last branch I had not been on, hence I took my last photos of the day near aforesaid terminus. One of them was of a Combino of tram 17 at stop Żeromskiego. If you like trams, Poznań will definitely be worth visiting. You will find here a wide range of tram types, many different routes and - last but not least - the Poznań Motor Show, which is the biggest car-motor event of Poland. I add two extra photos. Later I was in Poznań once again to take very few photos of the buses and the trams. In the first photo you can see a new Polish Solaris U18 at Poznań central railway station. My other additional photo was taken at the Miłostowo looping. I guess it is needless to say why I had chosen that place; it was the only old Konstal unit I saw that evening. However the classical unit did no proper 6 when coming back but it ran to the depot. Since they did not have a proper network map, I had to kind of guess where to get off to get back to the city centre. Luckily I caught a junction served by night tram 201 so that in the end I took that night line to get back to the central station.
